Early learning to read for Polish children living abroad (e.g. UK, USA, Canada)

Early learning to read, according to the Cracow method developed by Professor J. Cieszyńska, has been a hit among mums of toddlers. I teach children (from the third year of life) to read by play. The youngest do not even notice when they acquire this basic in our culture skill.

A simultaneous and sequential method of early learning to read is a syllabic method based on latest neuropsychological research and Professor Cieszyńska’s long-standing therapeutic and speech therapy experience. It is an effective way of acquiring a reading comprehension skill. It uses knowledge about sequential capability of the left hemisphere with happening at the same time use of simultaneous ways of processing linguistic stimuli of the right hemisphere.

All the tasks based on the right hemisphere work (global recognition of vowels, onomatopoeias, denominator nouns) are aimed at arousing a child’s motivation to read and they are carried out in such a way so as to proceed to analytical and sequential, left-hemispheric reading.

A stage order, introducing individual sounds, gradation of tasks difficulty and the presence of syllable paradigms in early learning to read are well-defined:

  • stage 1: from primary vowels to open syllable,

  • stage 2: from open syllable to first words,

  • stage 3: closed syllables reading,

  • stage 4: new open and closed syllables reading,

  • stage 5: reading texts on one’s own.
